FDA Issues Notice on Regulation of Other Tobacco Products

Tobacco E-News |

The Food and Drug Administration has released its annual Regulatory Agenda, which states that the agency intends to issue a proposed rule to regulate other tobacco products under the terms of the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act.

Currently, the FDA regulates cigarettes, roll-your-own tobacco and smokeless tobacco products.  The other tobacco products that the FDA intends to regulate and the extent of the proposed regulations will not be known until the proposed rule is made public.

The Regulatory Agenda states that the FDA should issue a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) no later than April of 2013.  Upon the issuance of the rulemaking proposal, the public will have a period of time to comment on the proposed regulations. A copy of the Regulatory Agenda announcement accompanies this issue of Tobacco E-News.

A great many people are converting to E-cigs because they belive it is less hazardous than smoking cigarettes.

Quote from a CASAA Press Release . “In spite of all of the rhetoric and scaremongering coming from the FDA and the tobacco control industry, e-cigarettes are not causing youth to start smoking, poisoning children, affecting the enforcement of smoking bans or causing any kind of public health hazard. They are being used as intended – by adult smokers looking for a far less hazardous long-term alternative to smoking traditional cigarettes,” said Keller.

Beginning of the end of the free ride on ecigs – it only gets worse from here. Some of you guys might want to go back into the used car business, I hear it’s still pretty good.

@OTP Cry Baby.
Do they sell muzzle’s around where you are.
Make’s sense to use them. You have been running your mouth for too long. Keep posting anti E-cig comments and posts, while the Ecig business grows to the $1 Billion mark.

Sambo, I can sense your anger and frustration in reading this, but try to avoid personal attacks here even though I’m sure it makes you feel better.

The entire ecig regulatory downfall of your “pet rock” industry is basically one lawsuit away from being moot. This of course is just a matter of time. The question will be which comes first, the lawsuit that end this charade or the FDA/State Laws/Taxes?
