Lorillard Tobacco CEO on Blu Cigs Purchase

During the 97th annual meeting of the  Tobacco Merchants Association, Ecig Advanced had a chance to sit down with Lorillard CEO Murray Kessler to discuss their purchase of Blu Cigs and their plans to market and sell the brand in the rapidly growing and changing future of electronic cigarettes:

Very interesting assessment regarding the infancy of the industry.

Kessler is right on the money- identifying the three issues affecting e-cig quality: 1) battery management 2) manufacturing quality 3) security of liquids. Additionally, he acknowledges that the e-cig business will never be a robust business until the product is able to be manufactured in the US and the manufacturing process is automated. He has a big, complicated job ahead of him.

I’m not sure that I would agree that US element is as important if quality control is improved as I do believe today there are some very good products being made today. Incidentally, Blu is not the best e-cig available. There are many much better. They did a good job of marketing themselves and gaining placement but they need to realize that Jason is probably right about the reference of the product being at 15%.

I don’t think Jason is so smart. I think if you look at their affiliate marketing, you’ll see a lot of cessation claims that Blu is likely paying for. One FDA letter away from serious pain.

Cessation claims are DEATH. The FDA is seeking to engage an outside vendor to collect and analyze all e-cig marketing claims in all forms of media- including and especially online. They will be going back two years at a minimum. Lorillard’s regulatory mavens will be kept busy for a long time.

I was referencing that the product is still very lacking. I just hope some one comes along and brings to market a much better technology.

Hey Miami Heat – you are right the blu product is just so-so. I just had a fellow vaper turn me on to the V2 Cig which is just pretty spectacular. I was pleasantly surprised.

Thanks to Judge Leon’s ruling (and the appeals courts) preventing the FDA from banning e-cigarette imports and sales, thousands of new and different e-cigarette products have been introduced and now compete in an essentially unregulated marketplace.

Since FDA officials cannot tolerate cigarette smokers quitting smoking or sharply reducing cigarette consumption by switching to or substituting far less hazardous smokefree alternatives, the agency has been drafting (and redrafting) a “deeming” regulation that could ban all e-cigarette sales and that would decimate the e-cigarette industry.

So as tobacco companies are now introducing far less hazardous smokefree alternatives to market to cigarette smokers, Obama’s appointees at FDA continue to try protecting cigarette markets and threaten consumer and public health.

Go figure.

Bill pretty amazing – I still love to dip! Lots of great options today! Always did Cope but now really like the Snus from General. Man it really delivers!

By the way, I bought some Smokingel at a Smoker Friendly and it really is pretty effective. I was actually stunned at how effective it was. I just hope folks get the chance to find alternatives that actually work.

You actually make it seem so easy with your presentation but I find this matter to
be really something which I think I would never understand.
It seems too complex and very broad for me. I am looking forward for your
next post, I’ll try to get the hang of it!
