Canada bans flavors in cigarettes, thats great

but they also banned burley tobacco, which is not flavored in this way or marketed towards children

Canada is nothing special, filled with fools just like everywhere else, i should know i live here

The act was approved October 8, 2009. The ban is contained in Clause 5 of the law which comes into effect based on Clause 18 180 days later or about April 1, 2010.

The Marlboro trademark is owned by Imperial Tobacco, which is a subsidiary of BAT. They’ve had it forever. PM approached them a million times over the decades to get the mark and Imperial would never sell it. Why you might ask..

Imperial Tobacco Canada controls about 70% Share of Market, with two big brands in DuMuarier and Players. ITC never wanted PM’s Marlboro coming into Canada and taking half the business away from them.

Ironically, PM owned Players in the USA and back in the 80’s and 90″s there was a big demand for the Canadian Players in the USA, which ITC ultimately wound up producing for PM to sell in the states under through a distirbution agreement.

Tell us more about Marlboros owned by BAT. PMI owns Rothmans, Benson & Hedges which I thought had the Marlboro franchise there. What I do know is that PMI is shitting bricks over the thought that the Canada ban could migrate to the TobReg group of the WHO’s Framework Convention on Tobacco Control.

I find this absolutely amazing as this would deal with the actual components like vanilla, chocolate and licorice but not deal at all with 1000+ additives that are harmful to the smoker!
